I am excited to show my big paintings that I have been working on at the VAC in Boise. Join us for an opening shindig Friday, August 5th from 7-10pm. Show runs through September.
From the press release:
"Where Packer’s early works showed recognizable figures, some elevated to sainthood as in her popular “ 40 Saints” series from 2007-2008, her recent work has been less representational. She traces the beginnings of the abstraction to the piece “Head Below” from the 2011 Idaho Triennial. Other recent works, shown at Bricolage in March and Enso Art Space in May, have been smaller pieces, component parts that combine and coalesce into larger wholes. For the VAC show, she is creating new large-scale paintings, the largest she has shown in Boise: These, she says, are those wholes."

I am pleased to announce that myself and 9 other artists have come together to create our own art gallery in Garden City, Idaho. Enso Artspace will showcase members’ work in a contemporary exhibition setting. All proceeds from the sale of work benefit the individual artists directly. In addition, Enso Artspace hosts art-related events such as lectures, performances and guest exhibitions. We have been hard at work preparing for our inaugural opening which will be held on May 13th. Running a gallery is certainly a lot of work, but I have enjoyed collaborating and getting to know other artists in Boise. I look forward to experiencing their work and growing in the space together.

I did some drawings for the cover(s) of a book of poetry that just got published. The book is a split between two talented poets. Read A. Minetta Goud's Arousing Notoriety and then flip it over and read Amber Nelson's Your Trouble is Ballooning. It was published by Publishing Genius in January 2011. They did a fantastic job; they look beautiful.

I was honored to be chosen by the Boise Art Museum's Teen Advisory Board to be the featured artist for Teen Night. More than 60 teens came to the museum for free admission, music and snacks. I setup shop in front of my work in the gallery and brought a bunch of in-progress paintings and portfolio books of my drawings. I also brought along some of my inspiration: bones, x-ray books, taxidermied fish. It was great to talk to the students about their work and interest in art.
Halfway through we all went into the studio and got to work. The students were supplied with paint and put their thoughts down on paper. Everything from portraits to spaceships. We had interesting conversations and listened to great music. I hope it inspired some of the students to keep creating

The Woodstock Animal Sanctuary found my Brigid cow drawing on Etsy and asked if they could use it for some of their marketing materials. After checking out their website and reading the stories of the animals they help, I immediately said yes. They sent me a design for a t-shirt featuring Brigid and soon after, wonderful, comfortable high-quality shirts. I am proud Brigid is helping such a worthy cause. Woman's and Men's shirts are available in the store on their website.
